Assignment & Course Output.


The course require students to carry out study and investigation of specific issues in construction industry.
The assignment will be in the form of group work and individuals.
Students will be divided into several groups of approximately 5 persons per group. Each group will be given one building that is under construction within the UTM campus. The group assignment will act as a background study. Each group is required to gather informations pertaining the overall stages and process as starting from the design stage until current construction stage. The information may be in a form of project brief, design guideline, correspondent documents, drawings and photos. Each group is requested to produce report on overall development and construction process.

Apart from the above general topics to be covered in the study, each student is requested to choose specific issues to be investigated individually and submission is in the form of individual report and power point presentation. Issues to be studied such as:-
1. Opportunities and Constrains faced by consultants.
2. Contractor and sub-contractor challenges
3. Aspects on Occupational Safety and Health.
4. Client's expectation and reality.
5. Building materials availability and cost effectiveness.
6. Construction labour skills availability and local content.
7. From Design Intention into Construction Reality.
8. Developing Capacity Building within PHB Organisation.
9. other related topics (please suggest).

Each group and student is required to discuss with tutor before carring out the study. Students will also be assisted by the Person/Architect/Engineer from PHB incharge of the project given.
